Prerequisites
To carry out this task correctly we must have the original Windows 10 ISO or your Windows 10 on DVD or USBStick, try to search for the same version that you have to be able to keep your data after the reinstallation.
Method #1: Reinstall Windows 10 using ISO
We must take into account that we must reinstall the same version of Windows, not a previous one because if we try to reinstall an earlier version, the option to keep the files will not be active:

To perform this process in Windows 10, we have two possibilities, the first from ISO image.
It’s not necessary to restart your computer using the ISO, search the file and right-click on it, then click on Mount

Click on Next and the assistant will start the process, checking your computer.

Now, we have the following options:
- Keep personal files apps, and Windows settings: With this option, all the data on the system as well as the applications will remain after the reinstall.

There, click on the Get started button located in the Reset this PC section

For some reason my default browser Chrome no longer fires up even though I can access IE and Firefox. Simple solution I thought: Re-install Chrome. But if I do this will it overwrite (extinguish) my bookmarks, or just take them over as if it was a version upgrade?
These bookmarks are not saved as favo(u)rites in IE or Firefox but I suppose must reside in a file somewhere on my hard disc which if necessary, and if I could locate it, I could copy in the form of a .bak file. Is this advisable and if so where does it hide?
The PC in question still uses XP.
